Montessori materials have very special qualities

They encourage hands on learning that enables young children to see and explore abstract concepts. Often made from wood, they are beautifully crafted and designed to appeal to the child. Developed to create opportunities for success, not failure, they have an inbuilt control of error', so a child can work with the material from start to finish, in their own way, and problem solve, all without adult direction.

Sensorial materials enable children to explore and discover shape, size, colour, texture, weight, sound, taste and smell. Practical Life activities involve everyday skills that young children love to learn and repeat - like preparing food, cooking and baking, setting tables, pouring water, arranging flowers, gardening, sweeping and polishing. These activities build independence, concentration and coordination. In the classroom we have Montessori materials designed to specifically support the learning curriculum in language, mathematics, music and culture.
